William E. Player
Mr. Player was patent counsel at Hercules Incorporated from 1984 - 1986 before becoming a member of Wegner, Cantor,
Mueller & Player where he was a senior partner supervising patent practice in biotechnology and pharmaceuticals. Mr.
Player handles all matters before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. His practice also includes patent appeals to
the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, intellectual property transfer, and business counseling. His technical
areas of expertise include: biotechnology, including all aspects of recombinant DNA engineering and protein
synthesis (advisor to U.S. PTO on implementing PATENTIN software) and its integration with immunology, medical diagnostics,
and medical treatment; medical treatment and devices, including prostheses (e.g., joint replacement, intraocular, and
extraocular lenses), pharmaceuticals, anti-cancer therapy, and diagnostic devices; organic and inorganic chemistry,
including industrial processes; materials science, including optic fibers, glasses, ceramics, integrated circuits,
and carbon-fibers; and mechanical devices. His articles on patent law appear in journals in the United States, Europe, and Japan.
